workshop
in Taos, New Mexico with Ken
Auster, which honed his skills of painting on location.
After the workshop David traveled between Taos, Santa
Fe and Telluride, Colorado where he completed many paintings
that capture the subtle light and fantastic cloud formations
of the high deserts and rugged mountains.
Hawaii
became another inspirational landscape when David
studied with Kevin
Macpherson in Maui. During the
workshop, he had the opportunity to paint in a fantastic
location each day. The Hawaii series captures the spectacular
terrain and the dramatic light of the islands. His
use of color became more original and vivid. The undulating
pattern of clouds and forms of the lush tropical landscape
came alive in each of the expressive paintings.
Living
in San Diego continues to offer wonderful opportunities
for David to develop his painting style. He loves to
spend summer days along the coast absorbing the brilliant
sunshine and opulent colors reflected everywhere. Cool
weather offers him the chance to venture into the high
desert and mountains. His paintings record a deep meditation
of nature with a spontaneous yet elegant combination
of abstract gesture and impressionist color. Living
with David's paintings, gives one a renewed sense of
serenity and peace by sharing a part of his intimate
connection with the infinite qualities of the natural
landscapes he captures so beautifully on canvas with
paint.
